Food Review :: Desserts @Damaso

My friends and I decided to stop by this place for some desserts... :3



The menu was story-book like and the names derive from various fictional characters from a book we used to study in school. XD




I'm not sure how popular this place is with desserts but they do have a wide array on display. This aside, they do serve mains (mostly local dishes) too. Mains are a little pricey but desserts were quite affordable. :3





B had the classic chocolate cake. I secretly wanted it but will be traveling in two weeks and can't risk getting a sore throat....XD



I had a bite and honestly it exceeded my expectations! I love the rich taste without it being overly sweet.:D



I had the Mango Canonigo, It was light and fluffy and so caramel-y! XD Halfway through I found it too sweet. =_= Then again, I wanted something light and this was perfect. I wish there were more mangoes though. :P



We were all photographing our food (again) -- and B couldn't wait to dig in.n_n

I had a taste of this too and it was nice and warm (well the choc was warm)! This is comfort food.X3 The rich thick cocoa complemented well (and to me tasted most authentic! :D).

Food Review :: Sze Chuan House

When it started to rain, we made a spur of the moment decision to eat here.



The place has been around for as long as I can remember, and most of the funishings are old and dated.



The entrance is lined with buddhist statues and some other (I'm guessing) religious antiquities.

Sze-Chuan Chicken (Sze-chuan style dishes are supposedly spicy but this was so-so. :O)



It tasted nice but didn't hit the right spot... something like that.



Stir-fried Beef -- tasted like home, and I rather liked it. Though I would have prefered more onions.:D



A clay=pot filled with mushrooms, veg, squid, and sea cucumber -- This was nice! the texture of the the sea cucumber was just right as well.





Fried chicken -- was rather bland. The chips that came with it were too hard.



Shrimps -- were too dry and overcooked. I have never tasted shrimps this bad in a long time, to be honest. :O




What I loved best from tonight's dinner was the Xiao Long Bao, I love dimsum and this almost always never fails! XD

Food Review :: Kebabers @Central

Yet another new restaurant has popped into the scene.

After a whole day of shopping, we decided to stop at this place.:D



I love kebabs and wraps, and seeing the display made me crave this taste.:P



I ordered the Keema Shawarma, which was something with ground beef.



The pplace had a nice theme, and the pictures were so comic book-ish. Colours resembling those of Herge's Tintin (see second strip from the right). n_n

As long as the flavour doesn't disappoint I don't mind though.

It was ---, but doesn't really taste anything like kebab! :O



Lol. the beef compared to other cheap establishments was better. The yoghurt/garlic/chili was bleah -- totally wrong flavour. There were too little onions and veg inside the wrap.=_=

This foodventure was a flop. XD

I do hope they improve the flavour!

Food Review :: Yoshinoya

Can you guess this logo??



Well, from the title of this post it's too obvious. n_n"

...

I came here to buy some foodie for take-away. The last time I tried this place was maybe 3 or 4 years ago, and I don't remember much of it.



The food is really good though! Their tempura not so, but their beef bowls are the best. :D

...

I had the (pork) yakiniku, and beef;



But also had a bit of tempura -- good, but not the best. The batter was too thick to my liking I guess.



It came with some furikake and preserved ginger. -- I love!! [Furikake is quite expensive and comes in small quantities in some japanese specialty stores here. the preserved ginger is readily available from chinese groceries but theirs was good as well, I like how it is not sweetened and how it contrasts with the sweetness of their yakiniku.]

The store ambience is wonderful,



I think I will try to eat here next time. :D

Service -- can't say as I had my food for take-away. The food was packed very neatly though! a 9/10 for take-away/delivery.

Food Review :: The Chicken Rice Shop

Another foodventure, this time The Chicken Rice Shop.





I had Curry Chicken Laksa. Laksa and I, we go together! XD



The meal comes with a choice of drinks, and I had Teh Tarik. I would have liked Teh Halia if they had it though.:3

The meat in the laksa was pretty basic,



but the soup base was so good. It had bits of chilli and I almost choked from swallowing one but still loved it.



Other than noodles they also have (well, as their store name suggests,) rice meals.

One that people come here to eat is their Hainanese Chicken.



I can't comment as I'm not so much a fan of Hainanese chicken....XD

Besides Teh Tarik, I also tried another drink, one made with a local citrus fruit, served with a piece of sour plum. It was cold and refreshing! :D I prefer a warm drink with my food though. :P



Teh Tarik was creamy but loaded with sugar! I ended up very thirsty after because it was so effin sweet (literally). I never had milktea this sweet when I was in Singapore or elsewhere! :O

Food Review :: Toastbox @ Robinson's

The seats are super comfy, only it has specs of bread crumbs and spilled jam on the floor and no one to clean it up.


Ceiling fan, nice ventilation and keeps the place from getting stuffy.


I thought this was nice, would want something like this. XD

It took some time for them to serve our food, considering there weren't a lot of customers then.
Although at that time it didn't really bother me much as I was keen to try this place.


A lot of Malaysian x Singaporean inspired food, being here takes me back to my SG adventures back '07-09..ish. :3


And finally the food came!! :D

White Chicken / Hainanese Chicken (I tried a bit and this tasted good, but in the end I couldn't help but compare this to food stalls I frequented in HK, this is lacking, but otherwise good.)









Next up, was my order... Nyonya Laksa! Oh, how I loved this. XD



I was hoping for the coconut milk base to be richer; Somehow also thought this was supposed to be spicy, and I'm a little disappointed this wasn't, I love spice.

Some minor personal preferences there, but this is something I'd still want to come back to anyway.



The food presentation was perfect. I love the burst of colour, the smell of laksa with the basil leaves.



The shrimp was oh-so-thinly sliced, I'd say only about 2-3 shrimps were there in total. In Singapore they served laksa with prawns.:3



Digging in! The noodles were nice, and with the laksa it so makes me want to slurp, if only I were eating this at home! Haha.


The fried Kway Teow came up next. I can eat Kway Teow days in a row, but this, hmmm. The taste was there, but the pasta they used made it all go wrong. It was too sticky and gooey to my liking. Some hofan from any chinese restaurant in the city might make this work. :O



Overall had a good brunch here, Lovely ambience, well-lit, soft music playing in the background, not too crowded, and I was craving for that certain flavour that I found here. A few minor setbacks but nothing that'd keep me from trying out the rest of their menu, if I happen to step on their door again.
