Food Review :: Komoro Japanese Dining

This evening we decided to come back to that Japanese restaurant we went to a couple of weeks back.^_~

The food is very nice. Mostly fried stuff, so it is quite filling.

This time we ordered the Ebi Tempura bento.

I had the Tendon.

I feel so guilty eating so many deep-fried stuff. But it's not like I eat this everyday anyway. XP

There was 1pc of ebi tempura and the rest was a bunch of vegetables. Carrots, Okra, and some leeks.. I think they were leeks. And onions.
It would have been nice if they included squash or Kabocha.

And then for sides we ordered some Gyoza.

This, I think, is one of the best things on their menu! I just have to say -- their Gyoza tastes amazing. The inside is filled with vegetables, and the wrap had a soft but firm texture.

This was what made us decide to come back to this place! XD

*Averagely-priced Japanese food place serving authentic-tasting food. The tempura in my opinion was quite ordinary but their Gyoza is highly recommended! ^_~

Food Review :: KimN'Chi - Cheap Korean Fastfood

Today I woke up at noon! I used to be an early riser but having started working I now realize how much I value my extra sleeping hours. XD

So we decided to try a Korean fast food place from the food hall in the shopping centre.

This was their version of the korean equivalent for japanese bento (I couldn't remember what it was called).

This was omu-raise and some rice noodles. It was quite nice but didn't taste korean at all. It tasted local but good nonetheless. Was also very filling --- with all the rice and noodles it's to be expected I guess.XD

Friend Dumplings were nice but ordinary. The wrap was crispy and the filling soft. But I couldn't quite figure out what it was filled with.:P

Chicken Barbecue -- very tender and tasted sweet and barbecue--ey. Very local-tasting and not Korean but yummy.

Dumpling Ramyon. Was awful. They used cheap local instant noodle packs. XD The soup base was nice however.

My meal. Is it a lot? I had quite an appetite that day and wanted to try everything.

Their kind of Bento!

Side dishes, local dilis, egg rolls, and crab sticks (and a rolled-up vegetable leaf) on skewers.

...

For a fast-food at a food hall it wasn't very cheap. But considering how expensive Korean-related dishes are here, it wasn't so bad. The taste caters to local palate and did not taste authentically Korean; but it was quite yummy.

Food Review :: Bistro Ravioli

Yet another evening at Bistro Ravioli!

Quite smitten with the food (if there's a more fitting adjective), so we're back! XD

The table overlooking the kitchen.

Very interesting view from this window because you can see how they make their pizza.:3

Interior. Brick. Warm Colours. Neon Lights.

Puttanesca with Sun-dried Tomatotes

Italian Sausage Ravioli in Romesco Sauce

Very beautiful flavour. X3 The ravioli is stuffed with a chunk of sausage, with a very strong garlic taste.

The sausage is very tender and blends just right with the ravioli. These two goes incredibly well with each other.

Fennel Sausage Pizza

Light and tasty.

A closer look.

Food Review :: Komoro Japanese Dining

This restaurant opened recently and thought I'd some in and try.

Some mask displays at the entrance.

Their menu.

They had soba (hot and cold), udon (hot and cold), bento, rice meals, and side dishes.

The interior.

And then there were some very informative food photos (and their origin) on their walls.

.

The Komoro Bento,

thinly sliced pork yakiniku, vegetables, and two slices of oranges.

Included with the meal is miso soup, which tastes just like.. Japan.XD

.

I had the Kakiage Udon, deep fried vegetables (although Kakiage is supposedly a mix of vegetables and seafood, I'm not sure I found seafood in mine -- was mostly onions, carrots, and was it leeks(?).) on top of warm udon in soy-sauce based soup.

This was very good, I like the light soup stock, the noodles, and the crispy goodness on top of it.

.

This was the Tentoji-Don:

Prawn, Kakiage, Okra, and Seaweed Tempura over rice.

.

We also had Gyoza which was my favourite part of the evening. 餃子は最高だ!!

These potstickers were so friggin' good!! You know when you could tell it's freshly made? This was it, exactly. The wrap was soft, the filling was made with vegetables and the taste was absolutely perfect.

The Gyoza was the perfect conclusion to the evening.

ごちそうさまでした!^_^

The taste was authentic, and was served very hot. The service was so-so. When we entered the store the owner was there so the staff were all-smiles and welcoming. But as soon as the owners left, the tables turned (sort of)-- the promotions stopped, the kitchen staff sang loudly, just minor things like that. When we left the staff were huddled in a corner talking and no one thanked us on the way out. Prior to this the japanese owner would thank and smile at guests who came and went - I had a similar experience at another Japanese place where the staff (didn't keep to themselves when the manager was away, and) greeted everyone who came in and out of the restaurant..

Food Review :: Gumbo - A Taste of New Orleans

This evening, with lack of a new restaurant to dine at,

we ate here, at Gumbo, because we haven't been in quite a while.

The interior remains the same, dark, woody...

And this is me being my tired self after a day's work. D:

There used to be more people dining here... But I guess it's a little expensive..

so while we waited they served some bread and oil.

Haha. Oil literally because it was just oil. No herby flavour nor a hint of garlic or spice.

And it was only two pieces of bread for a table of three. O_O

And so we waited and waited for what seemed like forever. (sorry, but the food just took too long! And considering there wasn't a lot of people that evening.)

And finally the first dish came out, Sicilian Pasta. Penne, tomato sauce, and sausages. Quite overpriced for something so simple I think.

It tasted good, but it was something I could cook even better.

Next came the Cajun Chicken, for this you can pick two sides.

We picked Cajun Rice and Fries.

The cajun chicken was served very hot and crispy. But I was disappointed to not find a hint of cajun! :O The rice however tasted very nice... the rather spiced up Cajun rice blended with the neutral tasting Fried Chicken. :3 So I had a good meal anyway.

The fries were nice as well, I love the rough slices and the texture. It was seasoned with Sour Cream no doubt, and I love sour-cream flavoured chips so I was satisfied. :P

Whether I'd come to eat again I'm not quite sure. It is too overpriced for mediocre-tasting food. Don't get me wrong, I quite enjoyed the food and I left with a happy tummy but for that price I'd rather dine somewhere serving a more exquisite flavour.

An American style restaurant serving a bit of everything.
